SIMCHECK Application Note

SIMCHECK HANDLER INTERFACE PROTOCOL

This document illustrates the protocol and wiring connections of the SIMCHECK HANDLER INTERFACE. Our various Handler Interface packages have been designed to accommodate the INNOVENTIONS brand handlers. Customers may use the following information if they are trying to interface our package to a Handler other than the INN-818 or the INN-828 INNOVENTIONS Handler.

OVERVIEW OF SIMCHECK HANDLER INTERFACE

The following drawing illustrates how SIMCHECK II is interfaced to the Handler:

Handler Setup Image

There are two main systems through which the Handler is interfaced to SIMCHECK II: the Test Site Interface and the Test Control Interface.

The Test Site Interface is a short connector which connects the SIMCHECK II test socket to the Handler contactor assembly. The Handler contactor assembly automatically contacts the tested memory device, and is therefore an extension of the SIMCHECK test socket.

The Test Control Interface provides command signals between SIMCHECK and the Handler. These include the test start signal (from the Handler to SIMCHECK) and the test results Sort1 (GO), Sort2 (NO GO), and the Motor Control signals (from SIMCHECK to the Handler).

BLOCK DIAGRAM OF SIMCHECK HANDLER INTERFACE

The following drawing illustrates the block diagram of SIMCHECK II interface to the Handler:

Handler Block Diagram

Our Handler Interface Package includes the test site connector, which fits INNOVENTIONS' Handlers. Due to propagation delays through traces, the actual timing of the DRAM signals when the module is inside the Handler are somewhat off from their timing when it is connected directly on the SIMCHECK test socket. This is why the overall trace distance between SIMCHECK and the tested module should be kept at a minimum. You may need to set up different timing values via SIMCHECK II's Setup utilities for Trcd and Trah, and you may also need to use set up Access times rather than the automatic speed feature of SIMCHECK.

The Test Control Interface is supplied in our Handler Interface Package and it has a 15-pin D-SUB connector to the Handler with the following pin-out:

Pin Number Function
1 5V DC
3 Sort 2 (Fail)
4 Sort 1 (Pass)
5 Test Start
6 Motor Control
9 Ground

All the control signals are TTL compatible.
