SIMCHECK II/IIse PLUS Upgrade Information

This document provides more detailed information on the actual upgrade process performed on the SIMCHECK II/II se PLUS and its adapters in order to bring them up to current factory specifications. This information is mainly intended for our Distributors, Resellers, and advanced users. Please note, however, that individuals requiring support for DDR devices should upgrade directly to the RAMCHECK level, as DDR support is available only for the RAMCHECK memory tester.

SIMCHECK II/II se PLUS Main Tester Upgrade #1
Service P/N: INN-8558-C-U1

This upgrade is for SIMCHECK II/II se PLUS test systems that are equipped with PCB assemblies requiring calibration and needing a few replacement parts in order to be brought to current specifications. This includes systems not needing PCB assembly replacement and being equipped with Sync DIMMCHECK 168 PCB revision D or higher.

1. Upgrade Hardware to match current production level:

A. Upgrade SIMCHECK II/IIse

1. Verify U40 chip is 744ACQ244. Replace if needed.

2. Verify minimal min_vwrt. Replace the address multiplexers if min_vwrt code is more than 58.

3. Add filtering to Vcc and Vdd regulators.

B. Upgrade Sync DIMMCHECK 168 to PC133 compatible level.

For Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Rev. D, we will also perform the "Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Rev. D PC133 Upgrade" (Service P/N INN-SERV-D-PC133) as part of this procedure.

2. Calibrate SIMCHECK II/IIse PLUS unit

A. 24-Hour burn-in of the adjusted unit.

B. Calibrate and verify all parameters.

SIMCHECK II/IIse PLUS Main Tester Upgrade #2
Service P/N: INN-8558-C-U2

This upgrade is for SIMCHECK II/II se PLUS test systems that are equipped with older PCB assemblies in both the SIMCHECK II/II se main tester and Sync DIMMCHECK 168 (having PCB ver. C or older).

1. Upgrade Hardware to match current production level:

A. Upgrade SIMCHECK II/IIse

1. Verify U40 chip is 744ACQ244. Replace if needed.

2. Verify minimal min_vwrt. Replace the address multiplexers if min_vwrt code is more than 58.

3. Add filtering to Vcc and Vdd regulators.

4. Replace older PCB Assembly where necessary.

B. Upgrade Sync DIMMCHECK 168 rev. C to PC133 compatible level.

For PCB revisions C, we will replace the entire PCB and soldered components as outline in our "Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Ver. C to PC-133 Upgrade" package (Service P/N INN-SD168-E-BRD).

2. Calibrate SIMCHECK II/IIse PLUS unit

A. 24-Hour burn-in of the adjusted unit.

B. Calibrate and verify all parameters.

Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Upgrade Information

Sync DIMMCHECK 168 boards are marked with their production version at the lower right corner as viewed from the bottom. The following describes the upgrade process for different production version boards.

Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Ver. C PC-133 Upgrade
Service P/N INN-SD168-E-BRD

PC-133 is a new technology, which is still being defined at this writing. The initial production version (Ver C. or lower) of the Sync DIMMCHECK 168 cannot be upgraded to PC-133 by replacement of components. In fact, it requires a major upgrade whereby we replace the entire main PCB board of the unit. Typically, the only parts we can use from the original unit are the expensive test socket, the cover, and the mechanical hardware.

The Version/Revision number is marked at the lower right corner of the bottom of the unit. The "Adapter Code" of an older unit (as shown in SIMCHECK SETUP - Configuration - ProdInfo) is '40h'.

We recommend that the entire SIMCHECK II PLUS package be sent for the complete calibration and upgrade procedure Service P/N INN-8558-C-U1 discussed above. If you have Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Ver. C, it is likely that your SIMCHECK II base unit is due for periodical upgrade and calibration (Service P/N INN-8558-C-U2).

Customers who need a fast upgrade and want to perform it at their location, may order a replacement Sync DIMMCHECK 168 PCB board package using this part number (Service P/N INN-SD168-E-BRD). Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Rev. D PC-133 Upgrade
Service P/N: INN-SERV-D-PC133

Sync DIMMCHECK 168 with PCB Rev. D or above can be upgraded to the PC-133 level by the replacement of a few parts and changes in the engine (controller) firmware. The adapter code (see above) should be '41h' or higher.

If you want to have only the Sync DIMMCHECK 168 Rev. D upgraded without the SIMCHECK calibration and upgrade procedure, please use the following service p/n to order:

Please note that this upgrade is performed as part of the SIMCHECK II PLUS Calibration and Periodical Upgrade (Service P/N: INN-8558-C-U1).

As mentioned above, we recommend that the entire SIMCHECK II PLUS package be sent to us whenever an upgrade is needed.

Sync DIMMCHECK 144 Upgrade Information

All Sync DIMMCHECK 144 adapters can be upgraded to the PC-133 level by the replacement of a few parts, addition of some jumper wires, and changes in the engine (controller) firmware. The adapter code should be '52h' or higher.

All Sync Chip Tester adapters can be upgraded to the PC-133 level by the replacement of a few parts, addition of some jumper wires, and changes in the engine (controller) firmware. The adapter code should be '59h' or higher.
